Mentorship and development for young athletes who have a passion for the game

In 2017, a client reached out to me with an opportunity to be involved in a newly formed mentoring program called Hardwood Ballers. This program aimed to mentor and develop young athletes who love basketball, teaching them the fundamentals of the sport through coaching, discipline, leadership, communication, relationship building, accountability, and teamwork. The why behind this program was to instill values that would contribute to an athlete’s growth and development on and off the basketball court, with the hope that they excel.

My role was to help understand the target audience, define the brand and develop the identity system that would help position the organization.

Scope of Work

  • Brand Strategy
  • Identity Design

The Hardwood Ballers logo and monogram was inspired by the simple shapes and lines of a basketball and basketball court.

Design Strategy

Through a brainstorming session, the stakeholders and I worked to identify brand attributes that contributed to the visual personality and strategic ways to differentiate themselves from their local main competitor. In addition to the strategy session, we also focused our efforts on understanding how the identity system would look across all applications.
